Universities have always been in the forefront of networking, and many of the network technologies that have transformed the business world had their genesis or first implementations there. The University of British Columbia (UBC) was an early adopter of large-scale wireless networking, and today has more than 60,000 users (students, faculty, and staff) scattered over more than 250 buildings across two campuses in Vancouver and Kelowna, B.C. Recently, the university completed beta-testing components in Cisco's new 802.11n wireless network solution as part of its ongoing effort to keep building out the network to support its educational and research mission.
